What is carcinoid syndrome diarrhea (CSD)?
CSD is the frequent, watery diarrhea that is one of the most common symptoms in patients with functioning neuroendocrine tumors (NETs)/carcinoid syndrome (CS).
What causes CSD?
CSD is caused mainly by too much serotonin. Some NETs produce too much serotonin in the gut, which can lead to frequent, watery diarrhea.
What is XERMELO used for?
XERMELO is a prescription medicine used together with somatostatin analog (SSA) injections to treat CSD in adults whose diarrhea isn't adequately controlled by SSA injections alone.
Do I stop taking my SSA if I start XERMELO?
No. XERMELO is taken in combination with SSA injections, not in place of it.
How does XERMELO work?
XERMELO works by reducing the overproduction of serotonin from NET cells, which plays a role in causing CSD.
When should I see results with XERMELO?
Based on the results of a clinical trial, patients can expect to see improvements in 12 weeks and some patients may start to see results within 1 to 3 weeks.
How do I take XERMELO?
XERMELO is an oral medication taken three times a day with food.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of XERMELO, simply take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.
How is XERMELO packaged?
XERMELO is dispensed in a monthly case containing four weekly packs; each weekly pack contains 21 tablets, for a 28-day supply (84 tablets total).
Is financial support available for XERMELO?
Yes, XERMELO offers programs to eligible patients to help with cost. See our support programs and learn more about eligibility and how to enroll in these programs.
